The must-see pieces
What to see at the museum
The Annesi-Piacentini Tomb (Olivetello)
One of the two main tombs, discovered in the 1960s in the Olivetello necropolis. Rich grave goods with bucchero ceramics, gold, silver, iron and bronze objects. The tomb structure is partially reconstructed in the museum.
The Tomb of the Flabelli
Also from Olivetello, named after the flabelli (ceremonial fans) found inside. It contains artefacts that testify to the high status of the burial.
The 7th-century BC orientalising amphorae
The most precious pieces in the museum: two orientalising-style amphorae unique in the world, dated to the end of the 7th century BC. The decorations depict:
- A wedding procession with a chariot drawn by two slow-walking horses
- A panther
- Stylised lotus flowers
Iron fragments: chariot and biga
Rare iron fragments reconstructing parts of a chariot and biga, symbols of the high rank of the deceased. The preservation of Etruscan iron is exceptional.
Bucchero and ceramics
The bucchero collection (the characteristic glossy black Etruscan ceramic) is extensive: vases, kantharoi, oinochoai used in funerary rites and banquets.
